How Do We Print Labels? We use a process known
as Flexographic Printing. The printing plates that we use
are made of a photopolymer material. These plates are made at our facility. The
printing plates are mounted to “Print Cylinders” using
a double faced mounting tape, Once the plates are mounted, the “Print
Cylinders” are placed in the press. The press has “Meter
Rolls” which carry the ink to an “Anilox” roll
that determines the exact amount of ink that is finally transferred to the
printing plate. The printing plate then transfers the ink to the paper
or film that we are printing on.
After the labels are printed, they are die cut – while still on the printing press – and the waste is removed. The labels are then wound on to master rolls. These master rolls are then sent to slitting and rewinding for finishing.
Slitting and Rewinding – Once the labels are printed and die cut, the master rolls of finished labels are put onto a “Slitter/Rewinder” where they are slit into individual label widths and counted for the required number of labels onto the finished rolls ready for delivery to our customers.
Sheeted Labels – We also have the ability to produce sheeted and individually cut labels directly off press. The finished sheets are fed onto a conveyor that also counts the sheets for final shrink wrapping and case packing.
Packaging – We shrink wrap all rolls and stacks of labels when they come off press. Most customers prefer shrink wrapping, as the rolls or stacks are covered to keep the rolls or stacks clean while in storage. The shrink wrapping also helps lengthen the shelf life of the adhesive by cutting down the amount of exposure to oxygen in the air. We can eliminate this step if the customer prefers.
